Where it all began

Over 20 years ago, Group Managing Director Robert Bull saw the need to bring together all the advice and resources that rental property owners would need, to successfully establish and build a rental property portfolio.

The business was set up by property investors, for property investors, and the core business has not changed in that same timeframe.

Staircase started in a small, serviced office in 2001 in the old ASB tower (now the Auckland Council premises) with 6 passionate team members who all had a vision: to help everyday New Zealanders use residential rental houses as a means to creating wealth.

In the 20 square meter office, the journey began with property investment sales, mortgage broking and Insurance services….all established to provide property-centric advice, in the one place.

Those first 6 team members worked with Staircase collectively for over 95 years, adding an amazing amount of knowledge, passion and experience to the team as it now exists.

About Us

At Staircase we’re here for one reason: to help New Zealanders to step up the financial independence they’ve always dreamed of.

We do that by helping homeowners use the equity in their own homes to invest in new-build rental properties, with a potential to make capital gains and generate rental income.

Our team has been helping Kiwi families build wealth through long-term property investment since 2001… we know a thing or two about it!

As a client of Staircase you can expect to receive professional, factual information and well-founded advice from qualified and experienced professionals.

Staircase quickly became a well-known and respected brand, and again, in two and a half years, outgrew the premises. The five teams relocated to 32 Mahuhu Crescent; positioned next to Spark Arena (then Vector Arena) and this is where they have been ever since.

The high profile, trusted brand values and the fact that the teams now occupied the top two floors of the building, meant that Staircase was offered naming rights.  Overlooking the ducks, lunchtime picnic crowd and mature Pohutakawa trees, the building is now known as Staircase Financial House.

In 2005 We opened an office in Pitt street Sydney, Australia with a team of 5, and shortly after an office in Beijing China, with an office of 10. The purpose of these offices was to sell investment product in the 3 markets leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. These offices were closed shortly after the global financial crisis, due the market downturn.

In 2017 we opened our office in Tauranga, then 2019 our office in Queenstown.

Staircase recognises that every client starts in the same place…..at the beginning.

If you dream of a future that sees you financially independent, take that first step.

Staircase can help you turn your dreams into goals, your goals into plans, and your plans into reality.

Let the team share their knowledge, experience and passion with you. Let them help you plan the future of your dreams, instead of accepting one that keeps you up all night with worry.

Where things are now

Staircase has grown as the needs of its clients have grown and now have over 80 passionate experts across the country.

People are incredibly important to the management team, and they proudly boast an average tenure of over 9 years across the team. In fact, the Head of Insurance, Head of Accounting and both Directors have been with the company for over 20 years.

The one constant thing in the last 23 years has been change.

The team at Staircase have been through 5 different governments, 3-4 property cycles, dozens of banking lending rule changes, tax policy changes, tenancy law changes, a Global Financial Crisis and even a global flu pandemic.

Through all this, they have continued to help hundreds of Kiwis purchase investment properties every year,  and more importantly, guide them through the ever-changing landscape.

In fact, they are proud to continue providing advice and work closely with hundreds of clients that started their journey with the business over 20 years ago.
