At our core, we’re property investors first — just like you. We understand the unique challenges, risks, and opportunities that come with building a property portfolio, because we’ve been through it ourselves.
 

Here are some of the most common questions we get:

  • We don’t charge any fees for providing property investment advice. You can meet our property specialists, our finance experts, our property managers, accountants or any team member that you feel is important to help you on your journey; there are no charges for any of these consultations.

    Once you choose your property and enter into an agreement, you will need to engage a suite of professionals to assist you with setting up and managing your portfolio. The team at Staircase can provide all these services and our fees are charged at market rates.

    You are welcome to pick and choose your professional services; but why would you go anywhere else when you have everything under one roof?

    The average tenure of the team at Staircase is over 9 years; we certainly know our stuff and have some great experience to lean on.

  • Staircase was set up by investors, for investors. While property investment might seem fairly simple, there are actually a lot of things that can go wrong if you don’t have the right advice.

    Our team have been through several property cycles. Ups and downs, different governments, different lending rules, different tax rules, different tenancy rules, a global financial crisis and a global flu pandemic. No matter what’s happening in our country, or even our world, we are here to help you create, manage and grow your rental portfolio. We have hundreds of clients that have been working with for over 20 years, and are now realising their dreams of a comfortable retirement. This is because of the trust they placed in us, and most importantly the confidence they had in our advice. Let us help you do the same.

  • Our focus on quality rental properties is Auckland, Tauranga and Queenstown and we have an office at each of these locations.

    These areas (on average) outperformed every other part of New Zealand in capital growth between 1992 and 2024 (so this is 32 years of data) and are all above the New Zealand average growth rate of 6.1% for the same period (source REINZ). These strategic locations are not accidental (and not just because we love skiing, surfing and sailing!), our research and experience pinpointed these locations as having high potential for capital growth. Each location has it’s own nuances and we can help you identify which one is most suitable for your investment strategy. You don’t need to live in these locations though, we can meet you online if this is more suitable.

  • We provide:

    1. Property advice and acquisition

    2. Mortgage and insurance broking

    3. Accounting and tax advice

    4. Property management 

    5. Property maintenance services (i.e. landscaping, painting, improvement and repairs)

    6. Rental portfolio review (this is free and available on request)

    Our services are all ‘pick and choose.’ Of course, we recommend you use our own passionate professionals who are very specialised in their fields, but this is completely your choice.

  • We appreciate all our clients are busy and your time is valuable. So yes, we can see you at your convenience. We can meet in person or using an online platform. Our only requirement is that all decision-makers are present at the meetings. The time you spend with us now, could be the difference between a future of freedom versus a future of worry.

  • A real estate agent mostly lists available properties and then look for buyers, charging a real estate fee to the vendor. Our process is very different. We partner with a select group of developers, often at ‘green fields’ stage, to identify properties that will make great rentals. Our acquisition strategy varies depending on each project; in some cases we have secured an early release of stock directly from the developers, in some cases we are the developer. In all cases you will be buying the property directly from one of the companies in our group.

    We use our experience as property managers to deliver the type of properties that tenants are looking for, assessing the overall area for future growth opportunities. We complete a large amount of due diligence on our developers and also work closely with our legal team to ensure the final contract that you sign is negotiated so that it’s not all in the developer’s favour.
