Definition

A component of equity on the balance sheet that includes the cumulative total of income and expenses that have not been recognized in the profit and loss statement. In NZ reporting, this might include things like revaluation gains on assets or foreign currency translation differences, which are recorded in reserves rather than as part of the profit for the year.
