Definition

The neutral third-party individual (or one of a panel of individuals) who conducts an arbitration and makes decisions in a dispute. Arbitrators are often experts (like seasoned lawyers or retired judges) chosen for their knowledge in the field of the dispute. Their role is similar to a judge in that they hear evidence and arguments and then issue an arbitration award.
